Petition to Patch Existing Security Problems in UT

This petition is a plea for help from Epic Games to fix the existing holes in UT by creating one final patch to the game. This patch would resolve the issue where USCRIPT can be added to core UT files on the client side, thereby allowing players to cheat online by using Aimbots, Trigger Bots, Radars, Timers, and more.

We understand that this patch would not completely solve the problems at hand, nor would it completely eliminate the scourge of online cheating in UT. But it would at least give the cheat protection authors the ability to secure their code, and allow them to detect when these core files have been modified.

Many members of our community have already made public pleas for Epic to fix this problem, but so far there has been no response. We would therefore like to use this petition as a way to demonstrate to Epic how many people would like to see this problem resolved. The petition authors believe that unless this UT security flaw is repaired soon, online UT competitions will begin to die. Therefore, if you are one of the many people that still enjoys online gaming in UT, we urge you to sign this petition to make your voice heard.

Note: The information gathered here will only be used in an email that will be sent to Epic. Once they have responded with their answer it will be posted here, and the petition database will be purged. I will keep a counter up for you to come to this page and see how many people have signed the petition.

UPDATE 11-27: We have collected over 3000 signatures to this petition in just over 48 hours. Thanks to everyone who took the time to sign it, and to those of you who have helped us get the word out to the UT community.

We are aware that a few people have been spamming this petition in an apparent attempt to discredit it ... our estimate is that roughly 90 invalid signatures have been posted so far. Be aware that we will be filtering out any signatures associated with invalid email addresses, as well as multiple signatures that seem to be coming from the same person. So spam if you must, but it will have absolutely no impact on what we submit to Epic. Thanks for playing!

UPDATE 11-29:Yesterday, we sent a note to Epic to make them aware of this petition and to ask them for a formal reply. We will post their reply here if and when it arrives.

We've also been clearing out some of the duplicate/bogus submissions from the database as part of this process. We've certified the signatures in the petition up through ID 3067, and signatures up through ID 4350 are halfway verified. As expected, the spam is pretty easy to isolate and remove. Remember, if you don't give us a valid email address, your signature will be deleted.
